Things you might not know about Adelanto

Adelanto has one of the strangest histories in the Victor Valley, and its wide-open parcels make it one of the easiest places out here to add square footage.

Founded as a health resort by the inventor of the electric hot plate

Earl Richardson, who also invented the Hotpoint iron, bought the land in 1915 and planned a town for people recovering from respiratory illness in the dry air. He planted it in apple and pear orchards.

The name means 'progress' in Spanish

Adelanto was picked deliberately as a forward-looking name for the health colony. The orchards froze out, the colony faded, and the town reinvented itself around the airfield in the 1940s.

Victorville's airfield started here

The Victorville Army Airfield — later George AFB — was built on land at Adelanto's edge, and wartime housing pressure is what actually populated the town.

Some of the largest residential lots in the valley

Big parcels and relatively low land cost are why Adelanto sees so many detached shops, RV garages, and second dwelling units compared to the cities around it.

What remodeling in Adelanto actually involves

Local conditions change the scope of a job long before anyone picks tile. Here's what we account for on Adelanto projects.

Room to build detached

Lot size rarely limits an ADU here. The real constraints are utility distance, septic capacity, and how far the driveway has to run.

Wind and blowing sand

The El Mirage corridor gets serious wind. Exterior finishes, roof edge detailing, and window selection matter more here than almost anywhere else we work.

Well and septic coordination

Plenty of properties are off municipal service. Adding fixtures means confirming well output and septic sizing before the plans are drawn.
