Things you might not know about Barstow
Barstow is a railroad town first and everything else second, and the age of its housing stock makes it the most rewarding place out here for a full renovation.
The 1911 depot downtown was one of Fred Harvey's grand railroad hotels, staffed by the famous Harvey Girls. It's been restored and now houses museums — a genuinely impressive building to find in a town this size.
BNSF's Barstow classification yard sorts thousands of cars a day. The town exists because two rail lines and two highways cross here.
Just northeast of town, Calico produced millions in silver in the 1880s before the price collapsed. Walter Knott — of Knott's Berry Farm — later bought and restored it.
The river runs underground for most of its length and rises to the surface in a few spots around Barstow, which is exactly why the town was sited where it is.

Lenwood, Hinkley, Yermo, and Daggett permit through San Bernardino County, with different review timelines than the City of Barstow.
